WARWICK, NY — A New Jersey man has been arrested in connection with the theft of multiple sets of skis from Mount Peter Ski Area.
Kevin R. Malkin, 39, of Hopatcong, New Jersey, was arrested Tuesday and charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony under New York State law.
The Warwick Police Department responded to a report of stolen skis at approximately 7:53 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the ski area.
Several schools from Bergen County, New Jersey, were present at the ski center for a scheduled ski meet at the time of the incident.
The estimated value of the stolen skis is between $4,000 and $7,000.
Through surveillance footage and witness interviews, detectives identified Malkin as a suspect.
The investigation revealed that Malkin was serving as an official at the ski event and was also a representative of Atomic Skis, the same brand of skis reported stolen.
Malkin was not an employee of Mount Peter Ski Area.
Mount Peter Ski Area management and staff provided access to video surveillance and other information that contributed to the arrest.
Malkin was processed and released in accordance with New York State bail reform laws.
