SPARTA, NY — A 28-year-old man is facing felony charges after allegedly setting fire to a residence while three other people were inside.
Davondre Smigalski-Jones, of Sparta, was arrested Feb. 16 and charged with second-degree arson and three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, according to Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office was contacted at approximately 2:18 p.m. Feb. 12 regarding a disturbance at a residence in the town of Sparta involving an individual who was threatening to burn the house down.
Deputies responded to the residence and observed a fire in the upstairs of the home.
As deputies were approaching the residence, a male was observed exiting an upstairs window to the roof.
Deputies quickly confirmed that the three other occupants were able to exit the house and that no one was still inside.
Deputies were able to get the male off of the roof and took him into custody.
Deputies learned that the male was a resident of the home and later identified him as Smigalski-Jones.
Smigalski-Jones was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Smigalski-Jones was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Conesus Justice Coyne.
The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office recommended that Smigalski-Jones be held on $50,000 cash or $100,000 partially secured bond.
The judge remanded Smigalski-Jones to the custody of the sheriff on $2,500 cash or credit or $5,000 partially secured bond.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Smigalski-Jones at his court arraignment.
