SPRING VALLEY, NY — A Pomona man was arrested after allegedly striking a woman and then attempting to grab a sheriff’s officer’s Taser during a confrontation at a transportation center.
Thomas Brenner, 34, of Pomona, was taken into custody by a Rockland County Sheriff’s Office officer who was on patrol.
The officer was flagged down by a woman who reported that a man had just struck her while she was seated at the transportation center awaiting a bus.
As the officer exited his patrol vehicle to speak with the suspect, the man immediately became aggressive and charged at the officer.
During the confrontation, the suspect grabbed the officer’s department-issued Taser in an attempt to remove it from its holster.
The officer was able to quickly gain control of the suspect and take him into custody without further incident.
The woman did not sustain any injuries.
Brenner was charged with attempted robbery in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree based on a previous conviction, attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree.
He was arraigned at the Spring Valley Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail pending a future court appearance.
