NORWALK, CT — A federal jury has convicted a local man of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Christopher Miles, 40, of Norwalk, was found guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in New Haven, according to U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan.
Evidence presented at trial showed that Miles left a loaded Glock 9mm pistol in a restaurant restroom in the early morning hours of Sept. 13, 2023.
A restaurant employee discovered the firearm while cleaning the restroom, and the manager contacted Norwalk Police.
Surveillance video from the restaurant showed Miles entering the restroom shortly before the employee found the firearm.
The video also captured Miles returning to the restaurant in an attempt to retrieve the weapon.
DNA analysis of the firearm revealed the presence of Miles’ DNA.
Miles has prior state convictions for first-degree assault, possession with intent to distribute narcotics, and sale of a narcotic substance.
Federal law prohibits anyone previously convicted of a felony from possessing a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
Miles faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
He has been detained since his arrest on related state charges on Nov. 21, 2023.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Norwalk Police Department investigated the case, with assistance from the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Division of Scientific Services.
