NEW HARTFORD, NY — A traffic stop on State Route 840 led to the arrest of a 57-year-old man on multiple charges including felony aggravated unlicensed operation.

John Holbrook of Pulaski was stopped at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday after police observed multiple vehicle and traffic law violations on Commercial Drive and State Route 840.

Police discovered Holbrook was operating the vehicle while his license was revoked due to a prior driving while intoxicated charge.

An officer detected signs of impairment while speaking with Holbrook.

Holbrook became combative as the officer began to administer standardized field sobriety tests, according to police.

Holbrook fought with the officer who was attempting to place him under arrest for driving while intoxicated and driving with a revoked license.

At one point, Holbrook attempted to return to his vehicle by charging toward the highway, endangering himself and the officer, police said.

The officer subdued Holbrook and placed him under arrest.

Holbrook was charged with speeding, failure to use a turn signal, operating a motor vehicle without a required alcohol interlock device, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation, driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree on permanent revocation (a class E felony), obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and harassment in the second degree.

He was processed at the New Hartford Police Department and transported to the Oneida County Jail for pre-arraignment detention.

Holbrook was held on bail after arraignment in the Oneida County Centralized Arraignment Part Court.
