Man arrested on animal cruelty charges in Granville

GRANVILLE, NY — State Police arrested a 78-year-old man on six counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals and failure to provide proper sustenance.

Ernest J. Wood, of Granville, surrendered himself to State Police on Feb. 11, 2026.

State Police received a report of possible animal neglect on Feb. 4, 2026.

The investigation discovered numerous animals at 244 DeKalb Road in Granville found to be without adequate shelter, food or water.

All animals in Wood’s possession were seized on Feb. 7, 2026, including two dogs, seven pigs, five rabbits and numerous birds, including chickens, ducks, doves and quail.

Wood was processed at the Granville barracks and issued an appearance ticket returnable to Granville Town Court on March 2, 2026.

He was released.
