School bus crash in Southbury

SOUTHBURY, CT — Police have arrested a man following a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus that ejected two students and injured several others.

Richard Estey, 65, of Southbury, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to obey a traffic control signal after the Feb. 11 collision on Southford Road near Jeremy Swamp Road.

Police said a Region 14 school bus transporting students was traveling on Southford Road at about 2:38 p.m. when it was struck by a vehicle operated by Estey.

The impact forced the bus into a third vehicle traveling northbound on Southford Road.

Two students were ejected from the bus as a result of the collision.

Several other occupants sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

Police said all injured parties are in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Estey was taken into custody at the scene and later released on a $25,000 bond.

The incident remains under investigation.
