Man arrested on weapon, unlawful imprisonment charges in Malta

MALTA, NY — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 hangup call Tuesday at 2:05 p.m. at Cocca’s Motel in the town of Malta.

Investigation into the matter led to the arrest of Richard E. Hileman Jr., 42, of Malta, for criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, a class D felony, unlawful imprisonment in the 1st degree and menacing in the 1st degree, both class E felonies.

Hileman is accused of restraining another person under circumstances that exposed the victim to a risk of serious physical injury.

He allegedly refused to let the victim leave his room while brandishing a knife.

Hileman is also charged with intentionally placing the victim in reasonable fear of serious physical injury or death by displaying a dangerous instrument after having previously been convicted of menacing in the 2nd degree within the preceding 10 years.

Additionally, he is accused of possessing a dangerous instrument having previously been convicted of a crime.

Hileman was arraigned before the Honorable Ellwood A. Sloat Jr. in the Malta Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail pending further proceedings in that court.
