PRESQUE ISLE, ME — One person died in an early morning house fire Wednesday that heavily damaged the second floor of a residence on Ginn Road.
The Presque Isle Fire Department responded to 139 Ginn Road at approximately 3:43 a.m. after receiving reports of a house fire.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions on the second floor of the residence.
Two occupants escaped the fire safely.
Firefighters were told a third occupant remained unaccounted for and was believed to be on the second floor.
An adult male was found dead inside the home.
State Fire Marshal investigators determined the fire originated in the deceased male’s bedroom.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The victim will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta to determine the cause of death and confirm positive identification.
Investigators determined that a functioning smoke detector on the first floor alerted the two occupants who escaped safely.
There were no working smoke detectors on the second floor, where the fire originated.
The Presque Isle Fire Department was assisted by the Presque Isle Police Department, Easton Fire Department, Caribou Fire and Ambulance and Versant Power.
