WOODBURY, NJ — A woman has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly using a stun gun on an adult with autism in her care.

Yolanda F. Johnson, 62, of Clayton, was arrested Feb. 5 and charged with third-degree aggravated assault, third-degree endangering a person with a developmental disability, and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

According to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, an adult victim diagnosed with autism disclosed to individuals at school on Feb. 3 that they had been harmed in their home.

The victim, who had marks on their left, rear shoulder, told police they had been stabbed with a “stab gun” as they attempted to leave home on Jan. 30.

A search warrant was obtained and executed at Johnson’s home where a blue stun gun was found.

Johnson was released on a summons following her arrest.

The maximum term of incarceration is five years in state prison for each charge.

“No one in our community should be subjected to physical abuse, especially individuals who are particularly vulnerable,” Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns said.

“Our office remains committed to ensuring these cases are handled with care, seriousness, and accountability,” Johns said.

The charges are accusations, and Johnson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
