BUCKINGHAM, PA — A police drone helped locate a missing man suffering from dementia Feb. 2.
The Buckingham Township Police Department requested assistance from the Warrington Township Police Department to conduct a drone search for the missing endangered male at approximately 9:39 p.m.
Warrington Township Police Officer Coia responded to the request and immediately deployed a drone.
Within a short time, the missing male was located using the drone, and Officer Coia directed responding officers to the individual’s location.
The male was safely recovered and reunited with his family.
The Warrington Township Police Department’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Division was launched in 2025 and is led by Lieutenant Robert Meditz.
The UAS Division currently consists of six sworn officers who are FAA-certified drone operators.
The program is a joint effort with the Warrington Fire Service, which has its own drone and certified operators.
