POLAND, ME — A Gorham man died after his vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck while attempting to pass another vehicle on Plains Road.
Deputies from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, along with Poland Fire-Rescue, responded to the 300 block of Plains Road at approximately 3:40 p.m. Feb. 10 for a reported two-vehicle collision.
Dylan Sanphy, 26, of Gorham, was traveling eastbound in a gray 2016 Jeep Cherokee and attempted to pass another vehicle.
During the passing maneuver, the Jeep collided head-on with a silver 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 traveling westbound, according to the preliminary investigation.
The Chevrolet, operated by Edward Morris, 52, of Mechanic Falls, was towing an enclosed snowmobile trailer at the time of the crash.
The impact occurred in the westbound travel lane.
Sanphy was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Two adult female passengers in the Jeep sustained serious injuries and were transported to Central Maine Medical Center for treatment.
Morris was evaluated at the scene and did not require transport.
Both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage and are considered totaled.
A crash reconstructionist from the Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with the investigation.
The vehicle that was being passed by the Jeep is described as a Subaru that did not remain at the scene.
Deputy Chris Miller is seeking to speak with the occupant(s) of that vehicle.
