Driver arrested on DWI charge in Watervliet

WATERVLIET, NY — State Police arrested a Cohoes man on drunken driving and assault charges following a two-car crash that left one vehicle on fire early Sunday morning.

Dennis W. Green, 27, of Cohoes, was charged with vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

Troopers responded to the crash on Interstate 787 northbound at about 1:58 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Green was driving northbound when he struck the rear of another northbound vehicle.

Following the collision, the other vehicle struck the guiderail, and Green’s vehicle struck the concrete median and caught fire.

Green and an adult passenger extricated themselves from the burning vehicle.

An unconscious backseat passenger was removed by bystanders and transported to Albany Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The adult passenger in Green’s vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Green was transported to State Police barracks in Latham, where he was arrested and recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.16 percent.

Green was arraigned at Colonie Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
