Two juveniles arrested in Watervliet

WATERVLIET, NY — State Police with the assistance of the Watervliet Police Department arrested a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old on Feb. 8, 2026.

The 14-year-old was charged with criminal possession of stolen property 3rd, a class D felony; reckless endangerment 2nd, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief 4th, a class A misdemeanor.

The 15-year-old was charged with grand larceny 3rd, a class D felony, and criminal possession of stolen property 3rd, a class D felony.

At about 9:26 a.m., troopers responded to the Walmart parking lot on Hoosick Road in Brunswick for the report of a stolen SUV.

Troopers patrolled the area attempting to locate the stolen vehicle and at approximately 10:39 a.m. observed it driving on North Pearl Street in Watervliet.

A traffic stop was attempted, and when the vehicle failed to comply a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was terminated by troopers shortly after when they lost sight of the vehicle.

At 10:53 a.m., the vehicle was located by the Watervliet Police Department after crashing into another vehicle in the area of 2nd Street.

The 14-year-old was identified as the driver, and the 15-year-old as a passenger.

Both were taken into custody.

During further investigation, it was determined that while the pair was operating the stolen vehicle in the area of North Pearl Street in Albany, the 15-year-old allegedly stole an additional vehicle.

That vehicle was located abandoned less than a block away from where it was stolen.

Both juveniles were transported to SP Latham for processing.

They were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Albany County Family Court and released to their guardians.
