ANDOVER, MA — Police and a regional SWAT team responded to a barricaded subject experiencing a mental health crisis at an apartment complex Monday.
Chief Patrick Keefe said a man came to the police station to report that his live-in girlfriend was actively suffering from a mental health crisis at their shared apartment at the Coachman’s Ridge apartment complex, located at 172 Haverhill Street.
The man reported that firearms were present in the home.
Andover police responded to the scene and a crisis negotiator engaged with the woman by telephone in an effort to persuade her to exit the apartment to receive mental health services.
The woman would not exit the apartment after more than two hours of direct communication.
The NEMLEC SWAT Team responded to assist with entry into the apartment for her safety, as well as the safety of officers and area residents.
At approximately 5:10 p.m., the NEMLEC SWAT Team made a forced entry into the apartment and located the woman in distress.
She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
No injuries were sustained by anyone involved in the incident, which remained contained to the apartment.
