Man arrested on domestic incident charges in Rome

ROME, NY — A 58-year-old Rome man was arrested following a domestic incident on Feb. 5, 2026.

Road Patrol Deputies responded to a residence in the outer district of Rome for a reported physical domestic in progress, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.

While on scene attempting to complete an investigation, the suspect made multiple threats of bodily harm to family members on scene as well as deputies.

Deputies learned that the suspect was in possession of a firearm, for which he was not legally allowed to have, all while in the presence of a child.

William H. Coonrod, of Rome, was arrested for endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor, and criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony.

After arrest processing at the Law Enforcement Building, Coonrod was held at the Oneida County Jail pending an arraignment in CAP Court.

Due to the threats that were made during the investigation, a Temporary Extreme Risk Protection order was filed and granted by a Supreme Court Justice.

As a result of the TERPO, multiple firearms were located and seized.
