ONEONTA, NY — A 21-year-old homeless man was arrested early Saturday on felony and misdemeanor charges following a traffic stop.
New York State Police at Oneonta arrested Colby J. Gravelin at approximately 1:14 a.m. Jan. 31, 2026.
Gravelin was charged with the class E felony of grand larceny in the fourth degree and the misdemeanors of operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.
Troopers observed a vehicle traveling on Chestnut Street in the city of Oneonta with vehicle and traffic infractions.
A traffic stop was initiated on Main Street.
While interviewing Gravelin, troopers observed him displaying characteristics associated with impairment.
Gravelin was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which confirmed impairment.
He was arrested and found to be in possession of suspected illegal drugs.
Gravelin was transported to State Police Oneonta for processing.
Upon further investigation, troopers learned that Gravelin was a suspect in a larceny from Home Depot in the town of Oneonta.
On Dec. 16, Gravelin was observed leaving the store with a cart full of power tools valued at over $1,700.
When he was approached by employees, he fled on foot leaving the items behind.
While at the barracks, Gravelin was additionally charged with the class E felony of grand larceny in the fourth degree.
Gravelin was issued appearance tickets for the impaired driving and criminal possession of a controlled substance charges to Oneonta City Court on Feb. 12, 2026.
He was issued an appearance ticket to appear at Oneonta Town Court on Feb. 17, 2026, for the charge associated with the incident at Home Depot.
