Two arrested in Williamstown overdose death

WILLIAMSTOWN, VT — Vermont State Police arrested two people Wednesday in connection with the December overdose death of a Williamstown woman.

Jonathan Luciano, 30, of Barre, and Ailyah Santos, 24, of Barre, were taken into custody Feb. 4 following an investigation into the death of Katelyn Grant, 24, of Williamstown.

Grant died at 1:35 a.m. Dec. 12 at a residence on Vermont Route 14 in Williamstown.

The Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations at the Berlin Barracks investigated the death and developed probable cause to believe the drugs that caused Grant’s overdose were provided by Luciano and Santos.

On Wednesday, troopers from the Berlin Barracks executed a search warrant at Luciano’s and Santos’ residence in Barre.

During the search, troopers located 259 bags of fentanyl, 52 grams of cocaine base and a handgun.

Luciano and Santos were transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing.

Both were ordered held on $25,000 bail each.

Luciano was jailed at the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury, and Santos at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility.

Both are scheduled to appear Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Orange County Superior Court Criminal Division to answer a charge of selling/dispensing a regulated drug with death resulting.

They are also scheduled to appear Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Washington Superior Court Criminal Division to answer charges of fentanyl trafficking, cocaine trafficking, possession of fentanyl and possession of cocaine.

The affidavit of probable cause will be filed with the court and made public following the arraignment hearings.
