BETHLEHEM, NY — State Police arrested a Virginia man on Feb. 3 in connection with a fatal three-car collision that occurred last fall on Interstate 87.

William F. Mcallister III, 38, of Ringgold, Virginia, was charged with criminally negligent homicide, a class E felony.

The investigation into the Nov. 1 collision determined that Mcallister III was traveling over 130 mph when he allegedly caused the crash.

Mcallister III surrendered himself to State Police Latham, where he was arrested and processed.

He was arraigned at Bethlehem Town Court, where he was released under the supervision of the Albany County Probation Department.

The driver who was pronounced dead at the scene was identified as Claudia Hargis-Grover, 63, of Glens Falls, New York.

The collision occurred at approximately 4:44 p.m. on I-87 northbound near Exit 23 in the town of Bethlehem.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Chevrolet sedan driven by Mcallister was traveling north in the left lane at a high rate of speed when it attempted to move into the right lane, sideswiping a 2009 Ram pickup truck on its driver’s side.

The Chevrolet sedan then veered back into the left lane where it rear-ended a 2025 Chevrolet sedan.

A passenger of the 2025 Chevrolet sedan was transported to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ram pickup truck and a passenger were both transported to Albany Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mcallister was administered standardized field sobriety tests, which showed no signs of impairment.

He was administered a preliminary breath test, which was negative for the presence of alcohol.
