NORTH ELBA, NY — New York State Police arrested a motorist on drunken driving charges following a single-vehicle crash on State Route 86 early Thursday morning.

Hebert Rock, 48, of Wilmington, was traveling westbound on State Route 86 at approximately 5:28 a.m. when he lost control of his 2018 Chevrolet due to unsafe speed for road conditions, according to police.

The vehicle exited the south shoulder of the roadway, struck a snowbank, and came to rest off the road.

Rock’s passenger, Kevin D. Reynolds, 62, of Wilmington, was evaluated by Lake Placid Rescue at the scene and transported to Elizabethtown Community Hospital for further evaluation.

Rock reported no injuries.

Troopers observed signs of impairment while speaking with Rock at the scene, police said.

Rock failed standardized field sobriety tests and was transported to State Police barracks in Ray Brook, where he submitted to a breath test that showed a blood alcohol content of .14 percent, police said.

Rock was processed and released on appearance tickets returnable to North Elba Town Court later this month.
