Bank robbery suspect arrested in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — A Wilbraham man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a bank robbery on Boston Road.

Keagan Mahabir, 29, of Wilbraham, was taken into custody on the 1600 block of Boston Road at approximately 5 p.m.

Officers responded to a bank on the 1800 block of Boston Road around 4:50 p.m. for a hold up alarm.

A suspect, later identified as Mahabir, allegedly handed a teller a note while holding tightly onto a concealed object.

Mahabir received an undisclosed amount of cash and left the bank.

Members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center utilized city cameras to locate a suspect matching the description on the 1600 block of Boston Road.

When officers located Mahabir, he ran into traffic.

Officers took Mahabir into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

Mahabir was positively identified and placed under arrest.

Officers located a knife in the suspect’s pocket and recovered cash that was taken from the bank.

Mahabir is charged with armed robbery while masked, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
