PETERBOROUGH, NH — Police have issued a public notification about a registered sex offender residing in the area.
Steven Lent, 37, of Sharon, is living on Jarmany Hill Road, according to the Peterborough Police Department.
Lent was convicted of aggravated rape in Massachusetts in 2016.
He used a deadly weapon in the commission of the crime and violently assaulted a female victim, police said.
Prior to that conviction, he was charged with four separate sexual assaults in Massachusetts, including rape, assault with intent to rape and four counts of indecent assault and battery.
Lent has served a prison sentence and is now a registered Tier III sex offender in New Hampshire.
Police said Lent is not wanted and the notification is informational only.
The department warned that citizens should not use the information to threaten, intimidate or harass registered sex offenders, as doing so may result in law enforcement action and could restrict future notifications.
The notification was issued pursuant to New Hampshire RSA 651-B:7,IV(c), which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public when an offender on the state sex offender registry is residing in the community.
