Cat rescued from elevated position in Newport

NEWPORT, NH — Emergency responders rescued a house cat stuck in an elevated position on Laurel Street on Feb. 3, 2026.

Newport Dispatch received a call reporting a feline in distress at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Sergeant Waterman of the Newport Police Department arrived on scene and confirmed a house cat was stuck.

The Newport Fire Department responded to the scene.

Captain Copeland Miller established command and began deploying fire department assets to address the emergency.

Fire department members used a roofing ladder to reach the cat.

The feline was rescued and reunited with its owners.
