Man arrested on burglary charge in Geneva

GENEVA, NY — A 34-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly breaking into his former girlfriend’s home and stealing her car keys and cellphone.

Kyle Benjamin Lee Shorter, of Geneva, was taken into custody at his residence in the Town of Geneva following the incident on North Main Street.

Members of the City of Geneva Police Department’s Uniformed Division responded to the North Main Street residence at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday for a domestic incident.

Officers learned that Shorter, a convicted felon, went to his former girlfriend’s home, kicked in the front door, and stole car keys and a cellular phone.

Officers determined that Shorter drove the former girlfriend’s car to his residence.

Officers located Shorter and the stolen car at his home in the Town of Geneva.

Shorter was arrested and charged with burglary in the second degree, a class C felony; grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony; and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.

He was transported to the Geneva Police Department for processing, then later transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.

Shorter is currently on felony probation for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree.
