OLEAN, NY — A Pennsylvania man was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop on West State Street on Jan. 29.
Ronald R. McGonigle, 40, of Eldred, Pennsylvania, was taken into custody at 10:27 p.m. after deputies conducted a traffic stop, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.
During the stop, McGonigle gave consent for deputies to search his person and was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
Deputies also observed drug paraphernalia in plain view on the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed McGonigle was in possession of an estimated 13.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a quantity of drug packaging material, according to the sheriff’s office.
McGonigle was transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Sub Station, where he was processed and released with an appearance ticket.
He was charged with criminal possession of a stimulant in the 3rd degree with intent to sell, criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the 2nd degree for packaging, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree.
The Olean Police Department assisted Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s deputies with the traffic stop.
The driver of the vehicle was issued a uniform traffic ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign.
McGonigle is scheduled to appear in Olean City Court at a later date.
