NEW HARTFORD, NY — A man was arrested on a felony charge after allegedly stealing merchandise from Home Depot on French Road.
New Hartford Police responded to the store at 6 p.m. on Jan. 29 for a reported shoplifting incident.
Arriving officers found that a male, later identified as Hunter Olah, 46, of Whitesboro, was being detained by Home Depot loss prevention officers.
Upon further investigation with the assistance of Home Depot loss prevention, police determined that Olah entered the store and selected multiple items, placing them in a shopping cart.
Police said $1,700 worth of merchandise was selected.
Olah then pushed the cart out of the store making no attempt to pay for the merchandise, according to police.
Home Depot loss prevention officers detected the theft and apprehended Olah outside as he was fleeing the store.
Loss prevention officers recovered the stolen merchandise.
Olah was placed under arrest by police and transported to the New Hartford Police Department for processing.
Olah was charged with one count of grand larceny in the fourth degree, a Class E felony.
Olah was issued an appearance ticket after being processed and will answer the charge in the Town of New Hartford Court at a later date.
Olah was also barred from the store.
