Multiple drivers arrested on DUI charges in Saratoga County

CLIFTON PARK, NY — State Police arrested multiple individuals on driving while intoxicated and related charges in Saratoga County during a series of incidents from January 22 to January 28.

On January 22, at about 10:29 p.m., State Police of Clifton Park stopped a vehicle on State Route 9 in Halfmoon for a vehicle and traffic law violation.

The driver, Jennifer E. Garland, 35, of Halfmoon, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic law violations.

Further investigation led to the discovery of a controlled substance in Garland’s vehicle.

She was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and a public health law violation.

Garland was transported to SP Clifton Park for processing, where she recorded a 0.34% blood alcohol concentration.

She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Halfmoon Town Court on February 10 and released.

On January 23, at about 11:44 p.m., State Police of Queensbury responded to Manor Drive in Queensbury for a report of a vehicle stuck in a snowbank.

The uninjured driver was identified as Elizabeth J. Bessey, 32, of Queensbury.

Bessey was arrested for driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic law violations.

She was transported to SP Queensbury for processing, where she recorded a 0.24% blood alcohol concentration.

Bessey was issued tickets returnable to the Queensbury Town Court on February 2 and released to a sober third party.

On January 24, at about 6:30 p.m., State Police of Saratoga stopped a vehicle on Knabner Road in Malta for a vehicle and traffic law violation.

The driver, Justin A. Peters, 35, of Mechanicville, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was transported to SP Saratoga for processing, where he recorded a 0.20% blood alcohol concentration.

Peters was issued tickets returnable to the Malta Town Court on February 26 and released.

On January 26, at about 2:25 p.m., State Police assigned to Clifton Park responded to a report of a rollover one-car crash off the roadway into the median of I-87 in Malta.

The uninjured driver, Mabel A. Chenier, 26, of Cohoes, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic law violations.

She was transported to SP Clifton Park for processing, where she recorded a 0.20% blood alcohol concentration.

Chenier was issued tickets returnable to the Malta Town Court on February 26 and released to a sober third party.

On January 28, at about 10:41 a.m., State Police of Saratoga responded to a one-car crash into a utility pole off Lake Road in Ballston.

The uninjured driver, Richard A. Wescott Jr., 38, of Ballston Spa, was arrested at the scene.

A child under the age of 16, who was in the vehicle at the time, was uninjured and turned over to a family member.

Wescott Jr. was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child (Leandra’s Law), endangering the welfare of a child, and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

Further investigation discovered a quantity of psilocybin mushrooms in Wescott Jr.’s vehicle, and he was additionally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree.

Wescott Jr. was transported to SP Saratoga for processing, where he recorded a 0.16% blood alcohol concentration.

He was arraigned at the Milton Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
