BATH, NY — On Jan. 28 at approximately 5:15 p.m., members of the Village of Bath Police Department responded to a residence on Geneva Street for a welfare check on children following a report of poor living conditions.
Upon arrival, officers discovered five children and several animals living in inadequate conditions.
Following an investigation, Chelsey N. Babcock, 34, of Bath, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor, and failure to provide proper sustenance to animals, also a Class A misdemeanor.
Babcock was processed at the police department and taken to Steuben County Jail for a CAP arraignment, after which she was released.
Child Protective Services was notified and is now overseeing care for the children.
The Finger Lakes SPCA removed several animals from the home, including seven dogs, two potbelly pigs, one cat, and multiple reptiles.
The animals are expected to be available for adoption in the coming weeks.
