ULSTER, NY — Police arrested Mikayla N. Mellin, 29, of Kingston on charges of attempted burglary in the second degree following an incident at a residence in Ulster at approximately 8:24 p.m. on Jan. 29.
Officers responded to a complaint from a resident who reported that someone was attempting to forcibly enter their home.
Police said the resident called out to the suspect, who then fled the area on foot.
A short time later, an individual matching the suspect’s description was located by police and positively identified as Mellin.
Detectives linked Mellin to several other open burglaries in the area.
She was charged with felonies of burglary in the second degree, attempted burglary in the second degree, and other misdemeanors.
Mellin was remanded to Ulster County Jail, where she will await further court proceedings.
The investigation involved assistance from the City of Kingston Police Department, the New York State Police, and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
