DUDLEY, MA — Police and emergency responders rescued a missing woman who had become lost on a walking trail early Saturday morning after a call from her mother in Texas alerted authorities.
The search began at approximately 1:00 a.m., when Dudley police received information that an adult woman may have been in danger after getting lost in the town.
Sergeant Chandler Boyd requested a ping of the woman’s cellphone, which provided coordinates in the areas of Sawmill Road and School Street in Webster before the phone’s battery was depleted.
With concerns heightened by the extreme cold, Officer Byron Lara obtained additional information, including a lead from the woman’s roommate that pointed responders toward the rail trail on New Boston Road.
Officer Lara coordinated with a Webster Police drone unit and Dudley EMS for assistance.
Webster officers searched with the drone, but were unable to locate the missing person due to the low temperatures.
Sergeant Boyd, using the newly developed information, identified a possible location near Rampco on Schofield Avenue at the rail trail.
Sergeant Boyd, accompanied by Sergeant Shawn Ebling of the Webster Police Department, searched the area and found the woman lying in a fetal position in a snowbank.
Dudley EMS transported the woman to a local hospital for evaluation.
