JOHNSTON, RI — A 45-year-old man was arrested following a domestic assault and two-hour barricade situation on Tabor Drive.

Officers responded to a residence on Tabor Drive at approximately 12:23 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2026, following a report of a domestic assault with a knife.

Upon arrival, officers located a 32-year-old female victim who was immediately transported by Johnston Fire Rescue to the hospital for treatment of injuries later determined to be non-life-threatening.

The suspect was identified as Jimmy Estrada, 45, of Johnston.

Estrada barricaded himself inside a bathroom within the residence and made statements that raised concern for self-harm.

He also claimed to be in possession of a firearm; however, police had no corroborating information that he was armed.

As a precautionary measure, officers established a perimeter to ensure public safety.

Members of the Johnston Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Response Team responded to the scene, along with members of the Cranston Police Department’s Special Response Team.

A licensed mental health clinician from Gateway Healthcare was also requested and responded to assist.

After approximately two hours of dialogue with officers and crisis personnel, Estrada voluntarily complied with law enforcement and was taken into custody without incident.

He was transported to a hospital for evaluation and remains in police custody.

Investigators later confirmed that Estrada was not in possession of a firearm.

Estrada faces pending domestic violence assault charges.
