Multi-vehicle crash reported on Interstate 89 in South Burlington

SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT — A three-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 89 North at mile marker 86.3 on Jan. 28, 2026, at approximately 10:06 a.m.

Traffic on Interstate 89 North in South Burlington was stopped due to an unrelated single-vehicle crash when Timothy Turner, 66, of South Hero, approached the stopped traffic.

Turner lost control of his 2012 Honda Accord, which struck a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox operated by John Sims, 43, of Starksboro, and a 2024 Ford F150 operated by Christopher Chappell, 73, of Williston.

No injuries were reported from any of the occupants of the vehicles.

All three operators were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The Honda Accord sustained front-end damage, while both the Chevrolet Equinox and Ford F150 sustained passenger-side damage.

Road conditions were wet at the time of the crash, though weather conditions were clear.

Vermont State Police was assisted by the South Burlington Fire Department and Central Service Towing.
