Juvenile charged in occupied burglary in Roseland

ROSELAND, NJ — A 17-year-old Newark resident has been charged in connection with an occupied residential burglary on Davenport Avenue.

The Roseland Police Department responded to the report at approximately 4:49 a.m. on Dec. 7.

Police said multiple suspects arrived at the residence in a BMW that had been reported stolen minutes earlier in Essex Fells.

The suspects entered the home through an unsecured rear door.

Investigators believe the suspects were attempting to locate keys to a BMW parked in the driveway.

The suspects fled after encountering the homeowner’s dog.

Detective Gibbons and Detective Aue worked with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office to identify those involved.

The juvenile, who is currently in custody at the Newark Youth House for an unrelated incident, has been charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and criminal trespass.

The investigation remains active as detectives work to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.

The Roseland Police Department is asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the department.
