Two arrested on weapon charges in Utica

UTICA, NY — Two men were arrested on weapon charges following a traffic stop on Jan. 26, 2026.

Officers assigned to the Tactical Unit conducted a vehicle stop on South Street near St. Vincent Street at approximately 1:30 p.m. for vehicle and traffic law violations.

The driver was found to have a suspended New York State driver’s license and was taken into custody.

The passenger was asked to exit the vehicle before it was inventoried prior to being towed.

During the inventory, officers located a pair of brass knuckles.

The passenger was then taken into custody.

Both individuals were transported to the Utica Police Department.

DreQuann Medina, 31, of Utica, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and several vehicle and traffic law violations.

Yasir Hamid, 24, of Utica, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
