Officer-involved shooting in Wilkins Township

WILKINS TOWNSHIP, PA — County police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man in critical condition.

At 12:02 p.m. Tuesday, County 9-1-1 received a report of a man with a gun in the 1100 block of Penn Center Boulevard.

Preliminary information indicates the man had gotten into an altercation with a maintenance worker and threatened the worker with a gun.

Officers from multiple local police departments responded to the scene and encountered an adult male in a garage with a gun.

Officers commanded the male to drop the firearm, but he refused.

An officer from the Churchill Police Department fired a less lethal round in an attempt to subdue the male, and the male then fired one shot toward officers.

Two additional responding officers from Churchill Police returned fire, striking the male multiple times.

He was taken to an area hospital and was last listed in critical condition.
