FALMOUTH, MA — A 56-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a motor vehicle break-in at a healthcare facility after police tracked stolen AirPods to his residence.
Eric Gifford, of Falmouth, was charged with Breaking Into a Depository and Larceny Under $1,200 following a search warrant execution on Jan. 27.
Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle break-in at a healthcare facility on Jan. 20.
A backpack containing a wallet, cash, a passport, AirPods and several other personal items was stolen.
Officers identified a suspect through surveillance footage and location data from the stolen AirPods.
During the search of Gifford’s Gifford Street residence, officers recovered the victim’s stolen property.
Police also found dozens of other items believed to be stolen from other victims.
Investigators discovered multiple sets of keys that matched, or are suspected to be associated with, several motor vehicle thefts reported over the past few months.
One set of keys was confirmed to belong to a stolen motor vehicle that had previously been recovered and was in Falmouth Police Department custody.
Gifford was booked and transported to the Barnstable County Correctional Complex.
He was arraigned Monday morning at Falmouth District Court and released on personal recognizance.
The Falmouth Police Department continues to investigate the additional items seized during the search.
Investigators are working to identify and return suspected stolen property to its rightful owners.
Any resident who believes they may have had property stolen from a vehicle or another location is encouraged to contact Detective Kurt Ruta at [email protected] with a description of the missing item.
