Man arrested on DWI charge in Brutus

BRUTUS, NY — A 56-year-old man was arrested on drunken driving charges after crashing into a utility pole on Route 31.

Gary W. Large, of Mentz, was arrested at 10:02 p.m. on Jan. 26 and charged with DWI-1st Offense and Aggravated DWI-Blood Alcohol Content of 0.18 or higher, both misdemeanors, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.

A deputy and state trooper were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Route 31 near Pump Road at 9:40 a.m. on Jan. 26.

Large lost control of his vehicle while traveling westbound on State Route 31, according to the sheriff’s office.

The vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole, shearing it in half.

Large was transported to the Sheriff’s Office, where he provided a breath sample of .19% BAC.

Large was issued uniform traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Brutus Court on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
