CORTLANDVILLE, NY — A 55-year-old man faces multiple animal cruelty charges after authorities say several dogs were found malnourished and without proper shelter at a residence in the town.
Michael A. Homza, of Cortlandville, was arrested Jan. 23 at 9:54 a.m. following an investigation that began Jan. 15.
Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to an animal neglect complaint at a residence on Weaver Road.
Authorities discovered several dogs had been left outdoors without appropriate shelter.
Six dogs were surrendered to the Cortland Community SPCA during the investigation.
A veterinary examination determined several of the dogs were emaciated and malnourished.
Homza was charged with overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, four counts of failure to provide sustenance and four counts of inappropriate shelter for dogs left outdoors.
He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing and issued an appearance ticket.
Homza is scheduled to appear in Cortlandville Town Court on Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. for arraignment.
