Man arrested on drug, unlawful imprisonment charges in DeWitt

DEWITT, NY — A man was arrested on drug and unlawful imprisonment charges following a domestic incident at a hotel on Jan. 23.

Officers were dispatched to the Hometown Inn on Old Collamer Road South at about 11 p.m. for a report of a male holding a family member against her will.

The male reportedly told the female she could not leave, barricaded the hotel room door with one of the beds and was armed with a black handgun, according to the DeWitt Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers located John Travers, 35, of East Syracuse, and the female victim in the hotel hallway.

Travers was taken into custody and found to be in possession of 47 grams of cocaine and 3.2 grams of methamphetamine.

Officers obtained and executed a search warrant on Travers’ hotel room, where they located 37 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, two CO2-powered pistols and various drug paraphernalia.

Travers was charged with unlawful imprisonment in the first degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

He was transported to the Onondaga County Justice Center to await arraignment.
