K9 locates hidden handgun in Hooksett

HOOKSETT, NH — A police dog trained to detect firearms found a hidden handgun during a traffic stop on Hackett Hill Road.

Hooksett Police stopped a vehicle at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday occupied by Richard Marchant, 35, of Hooksett, and Lindsay Marchant, 34, of Hooksett.

Both had outstanding warrants from the Merrimack Police Department for various charges that included Armed Career Criminal and Felon in Possession of a Deadly Weapon.

Officer Foley deployed K9 Ares, who is specially trained in the detection of firearms, for an exterior search of the vehicle.

K9 Ares alerted to an odor in the vehicle.

A subsequent search yielded a 9mm Taurus handgun in the glovebox which belonged to Richard Marchant.

He is now facing additional charges of Armed Career Criminal and Felon in Possession of a Deadly Weapon, in addition to his charges from the Merrimack Police Department.

Both Richard and Lindsay Marchant were arrested, and custody was exchanged with the Merrimack Police Department.
