Arson arrest in Utica

UTICA, NY — A man has been arrested in connection with a fire at a Court Street apartment building last month.

Utica police and fire units responded to 700 Court St. at approximately 2:50 p.m. Jan. 14 for a report of a residence on fire.

Fire personnel were able to quickly stop the spread of the fire, which was determined to have originated in one of the upstairs apartments.

Investigators learned the fire may have been set by an individual who left the residence just prior to the arrival of first responders.

The investigation was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division.

Through witness interviews and surveillance video, a suspect was identified.

Raul Dalmau, 32, of Utica, was located and arrested Jan. 26.

He was charged with arson in the fourth degree.
