MALONE, NY — New York State Police have charged a woman with petit larceny and criminal mischief in the third degree.
Valerie J. Shaw, 50, of Malone, was arrested Jan. 23, 2026.
Troopers responded to a larceny complaint on State Route 11 in the town of Malone at approximately 1:02 p.m.
An investigation determined Shaw stole the victim’s cell phone and damaged it by throwing it into a storm drain.
The criminal mischief charge involves damage to another person’s property exceeding $250.
Shaw was transported to SP Malone for processing.
She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Malone Town Court in February.
