WALLINGFORD, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a Rutland man on multiple charges after responding to a vehicle off the roadway on U.S. Route 7 on Jan. 17, 2026.
Troopers responded to the scene at 5:17 p.m. and met with Daniel Smith, 60, of Rutland.
During the investigation, police determined Smith had operated the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Smith also provided troopers with false information, according to police.
Smith was taken into custody and transported to the Rutland Barracks for processing.
He was charged with DUI, resisting arrest and providing false information to police.
Smith was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Rutland Criminal Division on Feb. 2 at 10 a.m.
