Village official arrested on weapon charge in Lowville

LOWVILLE, NY — New York State Police arrested a village official on a weapons charge Jan. 22.

Paul A. Denise, 56, of Lowville, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a class A misdemeanor.

State Police were contacted Jan. 2 by the Lowville Village Police Department requesting assistance with a complaint involving a village official.

A preliminary investigation determined that Denise brought a Heckler & Koch P2000SK handgun into the village offices Jan. 2.

Further investigation revealed that Denise did not possess a valid New York State pistol permit to carry.

The handgun was allegedly obtained from a family member for safekeeping while they were out of the country.

During a conversation with coworkers, Denise allegedly displayed the handgun.

The handgun was voluntarily surrendered to State Police in Lowville.

Denise was processed and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Lowville Court on March 5 at 4 p.m.
