MOUNT PLEASANT, NY — A wrong-way collision on the Taconic State Parkway left one man dead and an off-duty New York City police officer injured late Wednesday night.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:39 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2026, in the northbound lanes near mile marker 3.7.
New York State Police said a 2021 Infiniti operated by Tiffany P. Howell, 47, of Warwick, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck a 2024 Toyota head-on.
The Toyota was operated by Manuel Boitel, 61, of Peekskill.
Boitel was transported to Westchester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Howell was transported to Westchester Medical Center with what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Howell is a member of the NYPD and was off duty at the time of the collision.
The New York State Attorney General’s Office has been notified of the incident, as required under NYS Executive Law Section 70-b.
The investigation remains ongoing.
