ROYALTON, VT — A 46-year-old man was arrested Jan. 20 following a months-long investigation into the theft of firearms from a home in Tunbridge.
Darrik A. Forsythe, of Royalton, faces charges including possession of methamphetamine, possession of firearms by a prohibited person, possession of burglary tools, burglary and grand larceny.
The Windsor County Sheriff’s Department began investigating the theft of firearms in November 2025.
A search warrant was issued Jan. 16 to search Forsythe’s home, where two firearms were located: a Ruger AR-15 and a Mossberg 500 12-gauge shotgun.
Probable cause was developed to arrest Forsythe during the search.
Deputy Mock located Forsythe in Royalton on Jan. 20 and took him into custody with assistance from other Windsor County Sheriff’s Department members.
Forsythe is prohibited from owning firearms on both the state and federal level.
He was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
Forsythe was held on $100,000 cash or surety bail.
He was arraigned in Windsor County Court on Jan. 21 for charges in Windsor and Orange counties.
He was held on $100,000 bail in Windsor County and $50,000 bail in Orange County.
Assisting agencies included the Royalton Police Department, Vermont State Police Narcotics Investigation Unit, Vermont State Police Royalton Barracks, Connecticut Probation, Woodstock Police Department, the Windsor County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Orange County State’s Attorney’s Office and the United States Attorney’s Office.
