Man arrested on assault charge in Bradford

BRADFORD, VT — State police have arrested a New Hampshire man in connection with an assault at a Bradford restaurant.

James Smart, 39, of North Haverhill, New Hampshire, was taken into custody Jan. 21 and charged with simple assault.

Troopers from the St. Johnsbury barracks were notified of an assault at a restaurant on Main Street on Jan. 15 at approximately 6:51 p.m.

Troopers responded to the scene and conducted an investigation.

The victim was identified as Anthony Caccavaro, 59, of Haverhill, New Hampshire.

The investigation revealed that Smart had committed simple assault, police said.

Smart was later located and taken into custody at the Bradford Outpost, where he was processed.

He was cited to appear in Orange County Superior Court on Feb. 25 at 8:30 a.m. and was released.
