Fatal fire reported in New City

NEW CITY, NY — The Clarkstown Police Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 12 Glenmere Road on Wednesday at approximately 5:35 p.m.

Initial reports indicated that a resident may have still been inside the home at the time of the fire.

Upon arrival, police officers observed a single-family residence with heavy fire conditions throughout the structure.

The New City Fire Engine Company was on scene, along with several volunteer fire companies from throughout Rockland County providing mutual aid in extinguishing the fire.

Firefighters immediately conducted a search of the residence and located one occupant inside the home.

The individual was removed from the structure; however, the resident was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The fire was brought under control shortly thereafter by responding fire crews.

The Clarkstown Police Department Detective Bureau is actively investigating the incident.

At this time, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
