LINDEN, NJ — A 71-year-old subcontractor from Iselin died Monday after falling into a bulk liquid container while working near the corner of Park and Brunswick avenues.
Linden police and fire personnel responded to the private property shortly before 2 p.m. on reports of a fatal industrial accident.
Detectives believe the man was on top of the container when he accidentally fell inside.
Personnel from the Bayway and Linden fire departments retrieved the man from the container, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the incident, the 6,000-gallon container was being filled with mineral oil, a highly refined petroleum-derived liquid.
The Linden Police Detective Bureau is leading the investigation, and involved parties are cooperating.
A separate, independent OSHA investigation is also underway.
