Police seek help locating missing teen in Newark

NEWARK, NJ — Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing 15-year-old girl last seen early Thursday morning.

Lovely Mells, of Newark, was last seen at approximately 12:07 a.m. outside the YMCA building in the 600 block of Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard.

When confronted by a case worker about where she was going, Mells did not answer and walked away, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr.

Mells is known as a frequent runaway, police said.

She is described as African American with a light-brown complexion, 5’3″ tall, 120 pounds, with long black and pink braids, and brown eyes.

She was wearing a black coat, gray sweatpants, black sneakers, and carrying a large black duffel bag.
